Where a pass is achieved in the written paper, the
overall mark is the sum of the two components,
weighted as shown above.
Otherwise, the overall mark is determined by 100%
weighting for the written paper.

Programming assignments requiring design, coding and
testing as follows:
- Sequential file-processing
15%
- Menu-driven application, using direct access
files. 15%
Examination
Six questions relating to the following topics:
- evaluation of BASIC expressions
- array-processing
- manipulation of character strings
- formatting output
- use of READ and DATA
- use of functions and sub-routines.

Design and code a simple program which may require
the use of:
- sequential file I/O
- random file access
- error-trapping
- string manipulation
- program-structuring, using functions and/or sub-
routines. 40%
