Description
The style of the program is
participative and experiential, and
allows time for the individual to
clarify thoughts, concepts, and
notions.
Therefore, this subject aims:
- to provide a foundation for future learning and lifestyle
habits.
- to facilitate the students entry or re-entry into working
life.
- to give the student awareness and skills with which to
cope with interpersonal situations, both during working life and non-working
life.
- to provide a personal foundation for the future.

Continuous assessment based on:
Participation in Class 10%
To include: Attendance, punctuality,
participation in discussion,
co-operation, attitude and listening
skills.
Personal Growth Assignment 25%
The subject matter of the assignment is
to relate to any part of the course
where the student experienced personal
growth or discovery. It is recommended
that the "Log Book" be the source from
which the student selects a suitable
topic. The assignment may take any suitable form, e.g. Essay, short
talk, interview, drama, role-play, etc. This can be negotiated on an
individual basis between the lecturer and the student.
Research and Presentation 25%
Student is to select one of the study
areas listed in the topic, "Research
and Independent Study (Health,
Education or Welfare)", research the
area (including library research), and
present a written paper on the
findings. The paper must be correctly referenced. Students may be
required to work individually, or in small groups.
Maintenance of a Log Book 30%
A simple log book, recording personal
growth or discovery, relating to topics
covered. It is suggested that students be given 5-10 minutes at the
completion of each TOPIC to reflect and record discovery and growth. They
should be encouraged to go over the entries regularly, to add any growth or
discovery. (Such a log book would not be shared in the class.)

To include handouts relating to topics
covered, as well as resources related
to the course being studied.
