Description
To ensure learners receive knowledge and practical training which affect their
personal safety and confidence in the marine environment.

Range of Variables
Courses must be conducted by a person qualified by some aquatic institution
such as PADI, NASDS, SSI, BSAC, etc.
During training the learners should be equipped with mask, fins and snorkel as
standard equipment.
The wearing of a buoyancy control device is recommended if a weight belt is
used.
Protective exposure dress should be worn in accordance to the prevailing
circumstances (such as sun, cold, jelly fish etc).
The course should contain twelve (12) hours of instruction - three (3) being
theory and nine (9) hours of practical.
The maximum ratios of instructor to learners is to be 1:16 in the pool and 1:10
in the ocean.
Theoretical training in the equipment needed to successfully and safely snorkel
and skin dive.
Theoretical training in the effect of water pressure on the human body and
techniques needed for safe adaption.
