Description
To familiarise the learner with the aspects of plant cultivation, viz: soil
preparation, planting, staking, fertilisation, pruning, watering, propagation,
and pest and disease management.
To discuss the historical use of the plant groups.
To introduce the learner to a range of situations in which these plants can be
used.

Range of Variables
To allow credible competency-based training and assessment the class size MUST
NOT exceed fifteen learners.
Delivery will take place in the classroom and in various garden situations, on
the campus, at a workplace or on excursions to suitable locations.
Learners will need access to facilities to carry out the propagation procedures
as listed in the Learning Outcomes.
It is essential to deliver this module in the spring/early summer when a
maximum availability of flowers and live specimens can be assured.
It would be desirable to have completed, or be doing, 46019 Amenity Plants B as
familiarity with the relevant plants from the core lists of 46018 Amenity
Plants A and 46019 Amenity Plants B should be assumed. They may be revised as
necessary in discussions but should not be assessed.
Learners to be provided with the formats for assignments and diary records.

This subject is to be assessed internally using competence as a measure of
learner achievement.
The learner is required to demonstrate competency in each of the learning
outcomes in line with the assessment method shown.
Assessment will be based on an appropriate selection of the following methods:
- short oral explanations of procedures
- longer written and/or oral tests and/or
- practical demonstration of the skills required
- a 75% pass in identification tests is deemed necessary to show
competence in this area.
