Description

This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to perform advanced diagnostic, troubleshooting and repair operations in an automotive retail, service and repair environment.

Job roles/employment outcomes
The Certificate IV in Automotive Technology is intended to provide advanced training for automotive mechanics, electricians and vehicle body repairers who want to further develop their technical, diagnostic and repair skills.

Employment outcomes targeted by this qualification include:
master technician
repair manager
vehicle service manager.

Application
This qualification is suitable for an Australian Apprenticeship pathway.

Packaging Rules
To be awarded the Certificate IV in Automotive Technology, competency must be achieved in ten (10) units of competency, additional to the requirements of a relevant Certificate III automotive qualification.
- one (1) core unit of competency
- nine (9) elective units of competency, as specified below.
- one (1) elective unit of competency from Group A
- eight (8) elective units of competency from Group B, drawn from any combination of:
- units not already chosen from Group A
- Group B units listed
- up to three (3) relevant units available in this Training Package, other endorsed Training Packages and accredited courses, where those units are aligned to Certificate III, IV and Diploma qualifications
- a maximum of two (2) elective units may be selected from units aligned to Diploma qualifications.

Note: where prerequisite units are identified they must be counted in the total number of units required for completion of the qualification.
