Description
This qualification reflects the role of open cut or underground metalliferous mine managers who perform tasks that are broad, specialised, complex and technical and include strategic areas and initiating activities. They are required to demonstrate self-directed application of theoretical and technical knowledge and initiate solutions to technical problems or management requirements.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Packaging Rules
The qualification has core and elective units of competency requirements that cover the general and specialist skills for two (2) specialist streams.Stream 1 - Open Cut Metalliferous Mining
Stream 2 - Underground Metalliferous Mining
The core units and requirements of one (1) stream must be met for award of this qualification.
Stream 1 - Open Cut Metalliferous Mining
Total number of units = fourteen (14)
- eight (8) core units plus
- six (6) elective units, of which:
- two (2) must be chosen from Group A
- at least two (2) must be chosen from Group C
- no more than two (2) units may be chosen come from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.
Stream 2 - Underground Metalliferous Mining
Total number of units = fourteen (14)
- eight (8) core units plus
- six (6) elective units, of which:
- three (3) must be chosen from Group B
- at least two (2) must be chosen from Group C
- no more than one (1) unit may be chosen from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.
All elective units selected from outside this qualification must reflect current occupational and learning outcomes of this AQF qualification level.
There are no prerequisites to imported units listed in this qualification. Where a unit is imported as an elective, care must be taken to ensure that all prerequisites specified are complied with.
