Description
This qualification reflects the role of surveying or spatial information services assistants who work under supervision to support a surveying or spatial information services team. They perform a range of duties from collecting basic spatial data and providing field support services, to simple drafting and map production.
Surveying and spatial information skills are applied in a range of industry contexts, including town planning, civil construction, mining, engineering, health, agriculture and defence.
Cadastral surveying must be undertaken under the supervision of a registered surveyor. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
This qualification is suitable for an Australian traineeship pathway.

Packaging Rules
To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in:- Eleven (11) units of competency:
- Five (5) core units
- Six (6) elective units.
Electives are to be selected as follows:
- Five (5) units from the electives listed below
or
- up to two (2) of the elective units may be selected from any current training package qualification or accredited course, provided they contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome, maintain the integrity of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level of this qualification and do not duplicate the outcome of another unit used to achieve this qualification.

Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this qualification.
Traineeships and Apprenticeships
Achievement of Year 11 maths is required for school-based trainees. School-based trainees cannot complete this qualification while at school. Training after Year 12 is required.
Ability to demonstrate numeracy commensurate with Year 11 maths for post-school trainees. Please contact the registered training organisation to ensure your numeracy skills match the demands of the course.
