Description
This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to use suitable computer software to produce basic plans of a survey from field surveying data. It includes setting up equipment and software, establishing surveying data and dimensions, processing data, and producing basic plans. This unit is suitable for surveying or spatial information services assistants working under supervision. They use cognitive, technical and communication skills to select and apply a range of methods, tools, materials and information to complete routine activities and provide solutions to predictable and sometimes unpredictable problems.All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, in accordance with relevant state/territory regulations that govern surveying work, as well as work health and safety legislation and regulations that apply to the workplace.Cadastral surveying must be undertaken under the supervision of a registered surveyor. Users must check with the relevant regulatory state/territory authority before delivery. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare to create basic plan of survey.
  • 1.1 Clarify task requirements with appropriate persons.
  • 1.2 Identify data privacy and licensing requirements relevant to the task.
  • 1.3 Set up and check hardware, software and other equipment required to meet task requirements.
  • 1.4 Establish dimensions and data required for plan.
  • 1.5 Access and retrieve required data according to task requirements.
2 Compile plan content.
  • 2.1 Insert content data obtained from collected field surveying data into the plan.
  • 2.2 Apply measurements of bearings, angles, distances, coordinates, perimeter and area.
  • 2.3 Use basic software functions to process surveying data for plan of survey according to task requirements.
  • 2.4 Prepare and insert title block information into plan of survey.
  • 2.5 Apply basic drafting design elements to plan of survey.
3 Finalise basic plan production.
  • 3.1 Check preliminary plan of survey for accuracy.
  • 3.2 Review and make any necessary adjustments to plan in consultation with appropriate persons.
  • 3.3 Print finalised plan to scale and store according to organisational practices.
  • 3.4 Store data files securely according to organisational practices and data privacy requirements.
