Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to undertake scheduled routine work activities in the electricity supply industry (ESI) generation sector.Routine work includes undertaking functions encompassing activities such as the operation of non-critical generation plant systems, lubricating plant and performing minor maintenance on both electrical and mechanical equipment. Tasks may also involve cleaning, warehousing, stock duties and the operation of load shifting equipment.Competency in this unit requires the ability carry out routine work activities in an electrical supply generation environment. Individuals will work, under supervision, as an operator in a power generation facility.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare to undertake routine work activities
  • 1.1 Work requirements are identified from relevant personnel and documentation, in accordance with permit and workplace procedures
  • 1.2 Work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations, legislative requirements, codes of practice, manufacturers’ recommendations and specifications, environmental requirements and workplace procedures are identified, applied and monitored
  • 1.3 Tools, equipment and personnel protective equipment (PPE) are identified and checked to ensure they are safe to use in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.4 Relevant personnel are consulted to ensure work is coordinated at site with others in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.5 Resources and materials are confirmed and obtained in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.6 Schedule of work, including practices for working safely such as the use of safety data sheets (SDS), manual handling techniques and PPE, are confirmed in accordance with workplace procedures
2 Carry out work activities
  • 2.1 Hazards are identified and risk controls are implemented in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.2 Schedule of work is followed to ensure work activities are completed in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.3 Work practices applicable to ESI are applied in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.4 Instructions are sought, if required, from relevant personnel when unplanned events occur in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.5 Continuous checks on work quality are undertaken in accordance with workplace procedures
3 Check completed workactivities
  • 3.1 Final checks are made to ensure work conforms with instructions and requirements in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 3.2 Relevant personnel are notified of work completion in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 3.3 Tools, equipment, resources and materials are cleaned, checked and returned to storage in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 3.4 Work area is cleaned and made safe using sustainable energy practices in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 3.5 Records are updated in accordance with workplace procedures
