Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to undertake scheduled routine work activities in the electricity supply industry generation sector.Routine work can include undertaking functions encompassing activities such as the operation of non-critical generation plant systems, lubricating plant and performing minor maintenance on both electrical and mechanical equipment. Tasks may also involve cleaning, warehousing, stock duties and the operation of load shifting equipment.Competency in this unit requires the ability carry out routine work activities in an electrical supply generation environment. Individuals will work, under supervision, as an operator in a power generation facility.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.Note: Workplace practiceThe application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare to undertake routine work activities
- 1.1 Instructions for work activities, including permits to work, are identified and confirmed, in accordance with workplace procedures
- 1.2 Work, Health and Safety(WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) procedures are identified and confirmed for use, in accordance with workplace procedures
- 1.3 Tools, equipment and Personnel Protective Equipment are identified and checked to ensure they are safe to use, in accordance with workplace procedures
- 1.4 Appropriate personnel are consulted, in accordance with workplace procedures, to ensure work is coordinated at site with others
- 1.5 Resources and materials are confirmed and obtained, in accordance with workplace procedures
- 1.6 Schedule of work, including practices for working safely such as the use of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), manual handling techniques and personal protective equipment are confirmed, in accordance with workplace procedures
2 Carry out work activities
- 2.1 Hazards are identified and risk controls are implemented, in accordance with workplace procedures
- 2.2 Schedule of work is followed, in accordance with workplace procedures, to ensure work activities are completed
- 2.3 Work practices, applicable to electricity supply industry, are applied, in accordance with workplace procedures
- 2.4 Instructions are sought, if required, in accordance with workplace procedures, from appropriate personnel when unplanned events occur
- 2.5 Continuous checks on work quality are undertaken, in accordance with workplace procedures
3 Check completed workactivities
- 3.1 Final checks are made to ensure work conforms with instructions and requirements
- 3.2 Appropriate personnel are notified of work completion, in accordance with workplace procedures
- 3.3 Tools, equipment, resources and materials are cleaned, checked and returned to storage, in accordance with workplace procedures
- 3.4 Work area is cleaned and made safe, in accordance with workplace procedures, using sustainable energy practices
