Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes required to safely and efficiently cut blanks, fabricate formed vehicle parts, and change over dies.It applies to those in an automotive manufacturing environment and involves the application of skills and knowledge at a production worker level.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare
  • 1.1 Work instructions and job specifications are identified and confirmed
  • 1.2 Tools and equipment for the job are inspected and identified faults are rectified or reported
  • 1.3 Materials list is interpreted and materials are selected and prepared
2. Cut blanks to size
  • 2.1 Workplace procedures are identified
  • 2.2 Cutting equipment is set and adjusted to specifications to minimise waste
  • 2.3 Blanks are cut to specification, sorted, stacked and recorded for production purposes and transportation
3. Fabricate formed parts
  • 3.1 Pre-prepared materials are selected and loaded according to job specifications
  • 3.2 Formed parts are pressed and checked for specification and quality
  • 3.3 Faulty parts are marked and recorded according to workplace procedures
4. Maintain and change over dies
  • 4.1 Die surfaces are cleaned and inspected, with defective dies identified for repair or disposal, and appropriate personnel notified
  • 4.2 Die is removed from press, covered to protect surfaces, and stored
  • 4.3 Change-over die is fitted to the press according to set-up procedure and tested to specification
5. Complete work processes
  • 5.1 Tools and equipment are cleaned, inspected, maintained and stored according to workplace procedures
  • 5.2 Faulty or damaged dies and equipment are identified, tagged and reported according to workplace procedures
  • 5.3 Work area is cleaned, and materials disposed of or recycled according to workplace procedures
  • 5.4 Workflow and production schedule reports are completed
