Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to identify major roads, services and attractions.It includes locating major roads, highways and suburbs in area of operation; and locating transport interchanges, jetties, ports, stations and terminals. It also includes identifying main public services and facilities and locating key features in a central business district on a map.Work is performed with limited supervision, and with duty of care responsibility for self and others in achieving the prescribed outcomes. This unit meets part of the certification requirements for obtaining specialist driver accreditations. As requirements may vary between states and territories, people seeking specialist driver accreditation should contact their state/territory licensing regulator.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Locate all major roads, highways and suburbs in area of operation
  • 1.1 Major roads and associated suburbs are identified and located on a map
  • 1.2 Suburbs serviced by a freeway are identified and located on a map
  • 1.3 Main suburbs, with relation to geographical sectors (east, west, north and south), are identified in order of closest proximity to destination
  • 1.4 Bus/taxi lanes are identified and located on a map
2 Locate transport interchanges, jetties, ports, stations and terminals
  • 2.1 Major transport interchanges, jetties, ports, terminals and stations are identified and located on a map
  • 2.2 Major connecting roads entering and exiting main transport interchanges, terminals, jetties, ports and rail stations are identified and located on a map

4 Locate key features in a central business district

  • 4.3 Exit and entry points to city are determined in relation to a final destination
