Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for the control of emergencies and critical situations
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply control of drilling emergencies and critical situations documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  • 1.5 Communicate and coordinate activities with others prior to, during and on completion of the work activity
  • 1.6 Identify, establish and maintain communication systems with other personnel during the drilling emergency
2. Contribute to the control of critical situations
  • 2.1 Identify and maintain safe working practices
  • 2.2 Interpret/apply national standards and code of practice for manual handling
  • 2.3 Identify and initiate actions in response to developing, emerging and existing critical situations
  • 2.4 Activate relevant alarms
  • 2.5 Identify, interpret and apply processes and systems to quickly and competently close the well
  • and flow control head
  • 2.6 Provide assistance in the application of First Aid and medivac procedures
  • 2.7 Monitor the situation and initiate actions to minimise risks to personnel, environment, process, plant, tools and equipment
  • 2.8 Maintain verbal and written reporting requirements of critical situations
  • 2.9 Participate in debriefs and complete written records/documentation
3. Respond to emergencies in other areas
  • 3.1 Identify and maintain safe working practices
  • 3.2 Identify and initiate actions in response to developing, emerging and existing critical situations
  • 3.3 Activate relevant alarms
  • 3.4 Provide clear, concise and accurate information in relation to the emergency
  • 3.5 Adhere to authorised emergency procedures
  • 3.6 Monitor the situation and initiate actions to minimise risks to personnel, environment, process, plant, tools and equipment
  • 3.7 Participate in debriefs and complete written records/documentation
4. Participate in fire drills
  • 4.1 Recognise and comply with fire alarm signals
  • 4.2 Attend and participate in emergency drills and safety meetings
  • 4.3 Operate portable extinguishing equipment, fire hose and nozzles
  • 4.4 Identify and comply with fire team instructions
  • 4.5 Identify assigned fire/boat station and follow procedures
