Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop coaching programs to outline developmental activities and delivery methods suited to junior sports players.

1. Establish coaching program requirements.
  • 1.1. Identify learning goals for junior players.
  • 1.2. Assess readiness of junior players and confirm appropriate developmental program.
  • 1.3. Identify and assess constraints and risks associated with designing learning programs for junior players according to relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures.
  • 1.4. Determine resources required for delivering the coaching program.
  • 1.5. Select delivery methods to suit group or individual learning needs and junior player characteristics.
2. Develop coaching programs.
  • 2.1. Design coaching programs that reflect player characteristics and provide appropriate sequencing of skill acquisition according to relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures.
  • 2.2. Document coaching programs in appropriate detail and required formats.

Evidence of the following is essential:

designs and documents multi-session coaching plans to meet the diverse needs of junior sports players
applies knowledge of junior player's physical and psychological development stage and related learning needs or capacities
assesses constraints and risks associated with developing coaching programs for junior players
plans coaching programs and methods to deliver appropriate sequencing of skills that are consistent with professional codes of conduct.

Context of and specific resources for assessment
Assessment must ensure design of coaching programs relevant to the candidate's current or intended role that are of sufficient breadth to demonstrate competency and consistency of performance.

Assessment must also ensure access to:
