Description
This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to collect samples and prepare, test and report on the strength of joints. The unit includes interpreting test results for the identification of problems in production, and making necessary changes to processes.The unit applies to those working in a broad range of technical roles across different sectors in the forest and wood products industry.No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for testing
  • 1.1 Obtain and review test specifications and equipment for testing strength of joints.
  • 1.2 Collect and prepare test samples according to quality assurance procedures.
  • 1.3 Identify and resolve potential problems with testing.
2. Conduct testing procedures
  • 2.1 Follow organizational procedures to test samples.
  • 2.2 Obtain and interpret test results.
  • 2.3 Complete test reports.
  • 2.4 Store samples according to customer, test authority and site requirements.
3. Finalise testing
  • 3.1 Communicate test results.
  • 3.2 Identify and dispose of or recycle faulty material
  • 3.3 Report identified faults and assist with the identification of production problems.
  • 3.4 Modify test sampling process in response to identified problems and production changes
  • 3.5 Record and report testing outcomes.
