Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to install tunnelling constructions services in civil construction, including air and ventilation ducting, pipelines and road and rail access.It applies to those working in operational roles. 1. Plan and prepare to install tunnelling construction services
  • 1.1 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work instructions
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required to install and maintain tunnelling construction services and confirm work activity is compliant
  • 1.3 Confirm and identify requirements for complying with environmental protection, safety and traffic management signage requirements
  • 1.4 Select equipment and tools required for work activities and check for faults
  • 1.5 Select and wear personal protective equipment according to site requirements
  • 1.6 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures within scope of own role
  • 1.7 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and identify steps required to respond to emergencies
2. Install ducting for air and ventilation
  • 2.1 Install pipeline for compressed air to design location and connect to compressor
  • 2.2 Install pipeline for air supply to location and specifications
  • 2.3 Install ventilation ducting to location and specifications
3. Install pipelines
  • 3.1 Install pipelines for drainage and connect to pumping system according to job requirements
  • 3.2 Install pipelines for water supply according to job requirements
4. Install road or rail access
  • 4.1 Lay, spread and compact material to provide surface for vehicular access where required
  • 4.2 Identify and confirm rail track construction from tunnel drawings and specifications
  • 4.3 Lay and install rail track to specifications
  • 4.4 Install warning and directional signage to designed locations
5. Maintain services
  • 5.1 Maintain service ducting and pipelines to operational conditions
  • 5.2 Maintain access facilities to safe working operational requirements
  • 5.3 Inspect and maintain rail track according to job requirements
6. Conduct clean-up activities
  • 6.1 Clear work area and dispose or recycle materials according to site requirements
  • 6.2 Plant, tools and equipment are cleaned, checked, maintained and stored according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
  • 6.3 Carry out housekeeping activities according to site requirements
