Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Describe dyed designs
- 1.1 Application of elements and principles of design in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artwork are identified.
- 1.2 Works of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and textile designers are described.
- 1.3 Relationships to own design work are identified.
- 1.4 Protocols for development of culturally specific designs are identified and applied.
- 1.5 Application of design concepts in dyed fabrics is identified.
2 Prepare for dyeing
- 2.1 Fabric to be dyed is identified and prepared.
- 2.2 Dyeing processes and practices used by local community are described.
- 2.3 Dyeing technique and dye type to be used is selected.
- 2.4 Effects of dyeing on fabric are identified.
- 2.5 Tools and equipment to be used are prepared.
- 2.6 Dye formulas are selected, measured and mixed to achieve desired result.
- 2.7 Swatches of dyed fabric are used to experiment with and confirm dye recipe.
3 Dye fabrics
- 3.1 Dyeing technique is applied to fabric according to OHS practices.
- 3.2 Tools and equipment are used effectively and safely to achieve desired result.
- 3.3 Process is analysed to assess outcome.
- 3.4 Technique is modified as required.
