Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to expand repertoire and present an extended professional performance.The unit applies to those who are musicians with high level skills in areas including performance preparation, craft skills and musicianship, and who seek regular professional performance opportunities. They may be refining skills on either a first or second instrument, which can include the voice. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Refine skills using practice sessions
- 1.1 Identify strengths and weaknesses in own performance skills in consultation with required personnel
- 1.2 Identify and document performance development goals
- 1.3 Develop personal practice plan and strategies that are aligned to development goals refining performance technique
- 1.4 Develop technical control of chosen instrument to enhance musical expression and refine individual style
- 1.5 Refine technical accuracy by performing varied musical pieces and exercises during practice
- 1.6 Evaluate own technical strengths and weaknesses during practice and adjust practice regime accordingly
- 1.7 Confirm practice is undWertaken according to personal health and safety principles
2. Plan and rehearse repertoire to meet performance goals
- 2.1 Research new repertoire and identify pieces and works that advance performance scope and skills
- 2.2 Use opportunities to trial new work for peers and mentors, and incorporate their feedback into private practice
- 2.3 Practise different pieces and works that focus on identified areas of technical development
- 2.4 Select repertoire to present and confirm that any copyright and performing rights requirements are met as required
- 2.5 Determine order of items for performance and source any accessories or equipment required
- 2.6 Rehearse program individually or with accompanist or band if required
3. Present a professional performance program to an audience
- 3.1 Undertake required psychological and physical warm-up and warm-down activities
- 3.2 Perform a range of repertoire using different advanced instrumental techniques
- 3.3 Extend physical coordination and control over instrument and produce required standard of performance
- 3.4 Monitor and adjust music elements during performance as required
- 3.5 Mitigate errors in performance using performance recovery measures and maintain performance flow and audience experience
- 3.6 Maintain stage fitness in line with professional technical standard in performance
4. Evaluate technical skills in performance
- 4.1 View or listen to recordings of own performance and analyse technical and expressive execution
- 4.2 Note areas for improvement and develop strategies accordingly
- 4.3 Seek feedback on performances from required personnel and incorporate feedback into strategies for future improvements
