Description
To provide the student with technical training
equivalent to 1A and 1B of the TAFE segment of the
apprenticeship courses for both the Electrical Trade
and Instrument Trade.
To enhance skill development in all aspects of the
trade enabling the student to equal the level of
training of an industrial apprentice who has
completed one year of an apprenticeship.

1 The subjects 98002 and 98003 each have a duration of 180 hours in this
course.
2 REMEDIAL ACTION
The primary responsibility for initiating remedial
action necessary in the areas of technical training
related to trade subjects and educational subjects
rests with the individual lecturer.
Students not conforming to the essential safe
working practices established for the course, or not
progressing satisfactorily will be required to leave
the course.
3 ACCREDITATION
On successful completion of the technical training
section of the course, the student shall be credited
with subjects 1A and 1B of the Electrical Fitting
and Electrical Mechanic apprenticeship course and 1A
and 1B of the Instrument Fitting apprenticeship
course.
4 SUPPLEMENTARY PRACTICAL SKILLS
Factory and on-site visits should be undertaken when
available and relevant. On-site and on-campus real
work to be undertaken when relevant work available.
5 CERTIFICATE OF PRE-APPRENTICESHIP STUDIES
To be eligible for the Certificate of
Pre-Apprenticeship Studies the student must obtain a
pass standard in all subjects.
6 NEW APPRENTICE TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT SCHEME
For an apprentice to be eligible for a
DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING TRADE
CERTIFICATE, the apprentice must have achieved
the competencies as determined by the rules of the
appropriate Trade Training Schedule (TTS).
Achievement of College-listed competencies for each
apprentice, as listed in the TTS, is to be recorded
on the appropriate Trade Training Schedule
Assessment forms.
The Division of Industrial Training (DIT) will
require a completed College assessment report at the
conclusion of the apprentice's College training.
This report is to be forwarded to DIT prior to the
close of College business in the year of completion.
7 The student will be credited with 85187 on successful completion of
90066 and 90067.
