State Implementation and Classification
Description
To provide the pre-apprentice with technical
training equivalent to 1A, 1B of the TAFE segment of
the apprenticeship courses Fitting and Machining and
Plant Mechanics
To enhance skill development in all aspects of the
trade and enable the pre-apprentice to equal the
abilities of an industrial apprentice at the end of
his first year.
To develop the students' ability, maturity,
initiative, persistence and self-reliance to a level
commensurate with that required by industry from
their first year apprentices.

2 REMEDIAL EDUCATION
The primary responsibility for initiating remedial
action necessary in the areas of technical
training, related trade subjects and educational
subjects rests with the individual lecturer.
Individual students with substantial literacy and
numeracy difficulties may have the time spent on
any subject, other than technical training,
reduced by up to 72 hours (2 hours x 36 weeks) to
allow him/her to attend a suitable course of
study.
3 ACCREDITATION
On successful completion of the technical training
section of the course, the student shall be
credited with Block 1A, 1B of the Automotive
Fitting and Machining apprenticeship and 1A and 1B
of the Plant Mechanic Industrial or Agricultural
apprenticeship courses.
4 CERTIFICATE OF PRE-APPRENTICESHIP STUDIES
To be eligible for the Certificate of
Pre-Apprenticeship Studies the student must gain a
pass standard in each subject of the certificate.
5 NEW APPRENTICE TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT SCHEME (NATAS)
For an apprentice to be eligible for a
DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING TRADE
CERTIFICATE, the apprentice must have achieved
the competencies as determined by the rules of the
appropriate Trade Training Schedule (TTS).
Achievement of College-listed competencies for
each apprentice, as listed in the TTS, is to be
recorded on the appropriate Trade Training
Schedule Assessment forms.
The Division of Industrial Training (DIT) will
require a completed College assessment report at
the conclusion of the apprentice's College
training. This report is to be forwarded to DIT prior to the close of
College business in the year of completion.
