Description

Scope
This qualification provides competencies for entry level gas supply industry activities in transmission, distribution pipeline and cylinder operations and functions as outline below:
Distribution pipeline activities include laying distribution infrastructure (including pipes), developing gas pipeline infrastructure and reading gas meters in industrial, commercial and rural environments, on pipelines, associated facilities and equipment; and control centres.
Transmission pipeline activities include right of way preparation, rigging operations, hydrotesting, laying pipelines, operating transmission pipeline construction plant and equipment and conducting minor mechanical maintenance.
Gas cylinder operations for domestic and industrial supply of gaseous fuels include checking, testing, maintaining and filling of gaseous fuel cylinders and the storage, handling, loading, transportation and distribution of cylinders in accordance with the relevant Australian Standards and regulatory requirements
This entry level qualification is at Australia Qualification Framework (AQF) level 2 and provides the required knowledge and skills for defined work activities to be carried out under close supervision

Packaging Rules
The requirements for granting this qualification will be met when competency is demonstrated and achieved for:
- All the Core competency standard units to achieve a total weighting of 120 points, defined in the Core Competency Standard Units table and
- A combination of Elective competency standard units to achieve a total weighting of 240 points in accordance with the Elective Competency Standard Units tables, resulting in the achievement of overall weighting of 360 points.
- Up to 60 weighting points from Group A
- A minimum of 180 to a maximum of 240 weighting points from Group B
- Imported units from other qualifications, training packages and/or state accredited courses can be added to this group, but they must be at AQF level 2. If units have not being assigned a weighting by the relevant E-Oz Industry Technical Advisory Committee, their weighting will be 10 points. - All the required pre-requisite competency standard units have been met as required.

1. Prerequisite pathways shall be identified and met for all elective units selected.
2. In selecting elective units considerations to career planning advice should be given to units that form part of a prerequisite pathway for the progression to achieve particular competencies or qualification at a higher level.
