Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare to work with confronting material and processes in the creative industries. It involves being informed about working with confronting material, identifying areas of own work that could involve interacting with confronting material and developing a risk management plan with strategies to manage one’s own response when working with confronting materials and processes. The unit applies to those who work in creative arts and cultural contexts who may be exposed to sensitive, confronting and complex material and processes that require a risk management plan to manage one’s own response. This unit is not intended to address the requirements in Work, Health and Safety (WHS) laws.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Seek information and identify strategies to work with confronting material and processes

- 1.2 Identify industry guidelines for working with confronting material or processes
- 1.3 Identify strategies for managing working with confronting material and processes
2. Analyse own situation
- 2.1 Identify areas of own work that may involve interacting with confronting material or processes
- 2.2 Evaluate potential impacts on mental health and wellbeing when interacting with confronting material or processes
- 2.3 Identify support services available for self-care
- 2.4 Identify policies, reporting processes and procedures related to working with confronting material and processes
3. Develop risk management plan
- 3.1 List possible risks of working with confronting material and processes and assess possible impact of risks on self
- 3.2Adapt support strategies to suit own needs and manage identified risks
- 3.3 Draft a risk management plan for managing own response when working with confronting materials or processes
4. Review current circumstances and monitor risk management plan
- 4.1 Identify general nature of common sensitive material or processes relevant to own work environment
- 4.2 Review management strategies for responding to confronting material or processes and identify opportunities for improvement
