Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to analyse music and voice soundtracks.The unit applies to those who are working as sound technicians. They are responsible for synchronising soundtracks to pictures, auditioning material and selecting tracks that best meet technical and creative requirements. Their analysis of soundtracks is used by film editors as they edit or animate films. Individuals responsible for dubbing films into different languages and those working in film and sound archives also apply these skills on a regular basis. This work is undertaken with some supervision and guidance.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to analyse soundtracks
  • 1.1 Confirm production and storage requirements with required personnel
  • 1.2 Agree on final format and required timeframe for soundtrack analysis and with required personnel
  • 1.3 Select equipment to perform soundtrack analysis according to production requirements
2. Carry out analysis of soundtrack elements
  • 2.1 Break down soundtrack and analyse elements using software as required
  • 2.2 Report problems with soundtrack to required personnel
  • 2.3 Document soundtrack analysis clearly in required format according to organisational procedures
  • 2.4 Gather and include information from required sources in documentation
  • 2.5 Seek and consider feedback from others on soundtrack analysis and implement into final documents as required
3. Finalise and evaluate soundtrack analysis
  • 3.1 Supply analysis to required personnel in line with production requirements in agreed format and timeframe
  • 3.2 Evaluate quality of own work and note areas for improvement
  • 3.3 Seek feedback on soundtrack analysis from required personnel and develop strategies for improvement
