Description

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply a broad range of competencies in various work contexts in the music industry. They use some discretion, judgement and theoretical knowledge, and may undertake routine activities and provide support to a team or work group. They may work in music performance, sound production, music creation and composition, music business.

The job roles that relate to this qualification may include assistant sound technician, assistant music manager, musician, sound assistant and road crew.
 
Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification considerations

National Code of Practice for Induction for Construction Work
Sets and staging for some performances or events may fall within the definition of construction work. If so, people entering the construction site are required to complete the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (Australian Safety Compensation Council, May 2007). Achievement of the unit CPCWHS1001Prepare to work safely in the construction industry from the CPC Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package fulfils this requirement.

Units of competency in qualification
Some individual units of competency may have their own licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements. Users must check individual units of competency for licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements relevant to that unit.

Total number of units = Eleven (11)
- Three (3) core units plus
- Eight (8) elective units, of which:
- At least six (6) elective units must be selected from the elective units listed below
- No more than two (2) elective units can be selected from Group E
- Up to two (2) may be from the listed elective units (with the exception of Group E) or from this or any currently endorsed Certificate II or above training package qualification or accredited course.

Elective units must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the overall integrity of the AQF alignment, not duplicate the outcome of another unit chosen for the qualification, and contribute to a valid industry-supported vocational outcome.

Where relevant, the choice of elective units set out in the packaging rules above can serve to provide the qualification with one of the following specialisations. The rules to achieve a specialisation are detailed below.

- Sound Production
- Business

Specialisations:
The achievement of a specialisation will be identified on testamurs as follows:
- CUA30920 Certificate III in Music (Performance)
- CUA30920 Certificate III in Music (Creation and Composition)
- CUA30920 Certificate III in Music (Sound Production)
- CUA30920 Certificate III in Music (Business)

Packaging rules to achieve a specialisation:
Performance
- Four (4) Group A elective units coded CUAMPF must be selected

Creation and Composition
- Four (4) Group B elective units must be selected

Sound Production
- Four (4) Group C elective units coded CUASOU must be selected

Business
- Four (4) Group D elective units must be selected
