Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to support the community to represent their own priorities and aspirations through social and public action.This unit applies to workers using a community development approach to carry out work in the health, community services or other sectors. Workers at this level are part of a professional team and have the responsibility of supervision of others.The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Respond to community priorities.
  • 1.1. Plan and implement opportunities for stakeholders to identify and advance community priorities and aspirations.
  • 1.2. Identify models of participation and action research methods.
  • 1.3. Identify, develop and agree on strategies for meeting community priorities.
2. Support identified community priorities.
  • 2.1. Assess suitability of activities proposed to address community priorities.
  • 2.2. Determine amount and type of resources required to undertake proposed activities and assist in securing access to resources.
  • 2.3. Support community and stakeholders to undertake advocacy and lobbying activities.
  • 2.4. Facilitate collaboration and cooperation between community stakeholders.
3. Evaluate effectiveness of community action.
  • 3.1. Evaluate the effectiveness of activities in meeting community priorities using accepted strategies and mechanisms.
  • 3.2. Review progress of strategies with key stakeholders and update as required to ensure strategies continue to support community priorities.
  • 3.3. Document outcomes of evaluations and report according to organisational policies and procedures.
