Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply the work health and safety management system in the mining, drilling and civil infrastructure industry.This unit applies to individuals working in a range of supervisory roles. Work is performed under minimal supervision and competency requires a high level of judgement and decision-making. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Access information to identify requirements of work health and safety management system
- 1.1 Access, interpret and apply the workplace work health and safety management system according to workplace policies and procedures
- 1.2 Confirm work activity is compliant with work health and safety management system
- 1.3 Determine and communicate resource requirements and tasks to relevant personnel according to own role and responsibilities
- 1.4 Identify and coordinate training needs of work team according to work health and safety management system
- 1.5 Document planning activities according to workplace policies and procedures
2. Apply work health and safety management system
- 2.1 Assess incidents according to work health and safety management system
- 2.2 Assess the nature and scope of the incidents and communicate to relevant personnel according to work health and safety management system
- 2.3 Prepare an action plan in consultation with relevant individuals to maintain health and safety of the workplace
- 2.4 Apply procedures for monitoring, recording and reporting on hazards according to work health and safety management system
3. Monitor effectiveness of work health and safety control measures
- 3.1 Monitor the application of health and safety procedures and control measures across the work team
- 3.2 Monitor the use, effectiveness and appropriateness of safety tools and techniques according to the work health and safety management system
- 3.3 Monitor adequacy of control measures and revise or report inadequacies in risk controls according to workplace procedures as required
- 3.4 Evaluate action plan to improve the work health and safety aspects of the job
- 3.5 Maintain written work health and safety records according to workplace policies and procedures
- 3.6 Report and monitor work health and safety issues which require resolving by others according to workplace policies and procedures
