Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to inspect and clean machinery, tools and other equipment, including vehicles, of material that may contribute to the spread of biosecurity threats.The unit applies to individuals working in a broad range of job contexts who undertake defined routine activities under supervision. They exercise limited autonomy within established and well known parameters, providing solutions to a limited range of predictable problems.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to inspect and clean machinery, tools and equipment
  • 1.1 Confirm the work activity to be undertaken with supervisor
  • 1.2 Identify health and safety hazards and risks and apply controls according to supervisor instructions and workplace procedures
  • 1.3 Identify and select tools and equipment required according to supervisor instructions
  • 1.4 Select, check and use personal protective equipment and infection controls
2. Inspect machinery, tools, support vehicles and equipment
  • 2.1 Ensure machinery is safe before inspection and ensure free moving parts are immobilised according to workplace and operating procedures
  • 2.2 Check serviceability of tools and materials required for task
  • 2.3 Inspect machinery and equipment for contamination according to workplace biosecurity procedures
  • 2.4 Remove covers and guards safely
  • 2.5 Identify contamination and cleaning requirements according to workplace biosecurity procedures
  • 2.6 Report observed equipment faults to supervisor according to workplace procedures
3. Clean machinery, tools, equipment and support vehicles
  • 3.1 Select correct equipment and location of site for cleaning
  • 3.2 Clean the machinery, support vehicles, tools and equipment according to workplace biosecurity procedures
  • 3.3 Replace guards and covers safely
4. Complete cleaning work
  • 4.1 Dispose of waste materials according to workplace and environmental procedures
  • 4.2 Record cleaning history on appropriate forms according to workplace procedures
5. Report inspection results
  • 5.1 Document inspection results according to workplace procedures
  • 5.2 Deliver inspection reports according to workplace procedures
