Description
This qualification describes the skills and knowledge required to fabricate, assemble and install shading and security products, including blinds, curtains, awnings, shade sails, louvre shutters, roller shutters and security and non-security screens using a range of materials, fixtures and fittings.
Individuals in these roles perform tasks under broad direction, which involves discretion and judgement in selecting materials, tools and equipment, coordinating their workflow and problem solving. They are required to take responsibility for their own work including carrying out assigned tasks, complying with industry standards, organising process, solving problems and working to production or installation schedules.
The qualification allows for specialisation in:
Manufacturing
Installation
Security Screens.
This qualification is suitable to be undertaken as an apprenticeship or traineeship pathway.
Licensing applies in some jurisdictions for the installation of blinds, awnings, shade sails, shutters, security screens. Local regulations should be checked for details.
Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Packaging Rules
To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in:Twenty-four (24) units of competency:
- Nine (9) core units
- Fifteen (15) elective units.
Elective units must ensure the integrity of the qualification’s Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.
The electives are to be chosen as follows:
- One (1) unit from Group A listed below
- at least eight (8) units from Groups B, C or D
- at least three (3) units Groups A, B, C, D and E
- up to three (3) units from this qualification or any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course relevant to the work outcome.
Any combination of electives that meets the packaging rules can be selected for the award of the MSF30926 Certificate III in Shading and Security Screens.
Where appropriate, electives may be packaged to provide a qualification with a specialisation area as follows:
- At least six (6) units from Group B electives must be selected for the award of the Certificate III in Shading and Security Screens (Manufacturing).
- At least six (6) units from Group C electives must be selected for the award of the Certificate III in Shading and Security Screens (Installation).
- All four (4) units from Group D electives must be selected for the award of the Certificate III in Shading and Security Screens (Security Screens).

To be awarded MSF30926 Certificate III in Shading and Security Screens (Manufacturing), at least six (6) units must be completed from Group B electives.

At least eight (8) unit must be completed from Groups B, C or D.
To be awarded MSF30926 Certificate III in Shading and Security Screens (Installation), at least six (6) units must be completed from Group C electives.
5. Elective Units - Group D: Security Screens Electives
At least eight (8) unit must be completed from Groups B, C or D.
To be awarded MSF30926 Certificate III in Shading and Security Screens (Security Screens), all four (4) units must be completed from Group D electives.
